Hey MB, Welcome to China!

Temperature: 25c
Weather: Cloudy

This morning I read from Malaysia-Today that my friend, YB Teng Chang Khim had accused Selangor Barisan Nasional assemblymen of using state funds to pay for an all-expenses tour of the Silk Road in China.

This was what the report said:

The first two groups left on Aug 21 and Sept 1, while the last group is due to leave in the last week of this month.

According to the itinerary of the trip to China, arranged by a well-known Kuala Lumpur-based tour agency, the group that left on August went to Beijing, Urumqi, Turpan, Kashi and Guangzhou.

Among the places they visited were the Fragrant Concubine's tomb in Kashi, the Grape Valley and Flaming Mountain in Turpan, and Shangxiajiu pedestrian shopping street in Guangzhou.

The itinerary also included visits to several mosques in various cities and several breaks for shopping.

When being questioned by the media, this Selangor Menteri Besar clarified that “it was an educational trip on beautification and cleanliness.”

“I am not sure where they went but every year, they are encouraged to go on educational trips. It was organized by the state BN but they have to bear the cost on their own.” Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said.

As expected, YB Teng got a slap on his wrist for exposing this. The Menteri Besar said Teng should get his facts right before making such allegations.“He is a lawyer. How can a learned person say such things without checking his facts? It's very bad. It's very shameful and a wrong allegation.”

Does the MB honestly believe the people will buy his explanation? Or he really thinks that the people can’t differentiate a cow from a horse? Or are people actually that stupid? It is almost like getting caught having fun in a nightclub but tell the headmaster that I was doing a scientific experiment on the effect of alcohol on human beings. Please lar, MB, you can do better than that.

This is the kind of joke Malaysian gets from time to time. Educational trip to China on beautification and cleanliness? Oh please! Why to Urumqi, Turpan and Kashi to learn about cleanliness? If one were to learn something related to modernizing a city or town planning, wouldn’t Shanghai, Xiamen or some other bigger and advanced cities be better options? Frankly speaking, if I were to go some places to learn about cleanliness, China will not be on top of my list. I would definitely prefer countries like Singapore, Switzerland and New Zealand.

Further, if it was really an educational trip to learn about how people in Urumqi, Turpan or Kashi clean and beautify their towns, then why the shopping breaks? Why was there a need to bring spouses? Why only BN assemblymen get the so called “education”? Are the DAP men already too clever and smart that they do not need the additional education in China? One more question, I was quite sure the last time I checked, Selangor was already a “developed state” (or at least it proudly claims to be). Then why the leaders of a “developed state” have to travel thousands miles to rural and undeveloped parts of a “developing country” to learn their tricks?

I am not sure how the state assembly works, but what I know is, even when I took RM400 from the Rotary Club of Port Klang to attend a training, I was required to submit a written report and do a presentation on what I have learned from the training and how this newly acquired knowledge could assist in my personal life as well as in strengthening the club.

Frankly, I am quite disgusted by these sorts of blatant abuse of funds and powers. The Auditor-General had just recently disclosed the mismanagement, abuse and misappropriation of public coffers of gigantic scale. Yet, nothing seems to be done and Malaysia is still business as usual. Maybe I can suggest to the Auditor General that for the year 2007 report, he needs not waste time and public funds to carry out a detailed department by department audit, all he needs to do is copy the 2006 report and paste it on 2007 report, just remember to change the title to “2007 Audit Report”. The same old stories about corruption, incompetence, irregularities, mismanagement, abuse, dishonesty, lack of transparency etc will surely be repeated in the 2007 report.

I don’t know for how long the people in Selangor can tolerate these bullshits. I believe Malaysia shall have the fate it deserves 大马应得其应得之命运. If these same clowns are re-elected by the people into office in the coming general election, I hope G will have mercy on our souls.
